It's not uncommon to see entire families come to an event to play Pokemon together. Not that the communities for the other games don’t have any nice people, but because Pokemon is an all-ages game and the cards aren’t that valuable, people generally only get into it because they have a genuine love for Pokemon and want to enjoy it with other people. Play Out of the three big TCGs right now - the other two being Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh! - Pokemon is known for having the warmest, most welcoming community. (There are different age divisions so kids and adults play separately) People are always down to trade cards, talk strategy, and chat about anything and everything Pokemon-related. Every so often they host tournaments, too. They host general play sessions where players of all skill levels can come and play for fun. There are weekly meetings held at game stores called Pokemon Leagues. ![]() Going to a local Pokemon TCG event is the same way. Everyone is excited to be out there catching Pokemon and are more than happy to point you in the direction of that elusive Abra you’re hunting. Meeting complete strangers who share in your passion for Pokemon will always be awesome. Great CommunityOne of the best aspects of Pokemon Go is coming across other trainers while out catching Pokemon in public places. It’s also worth noting that with the rise of Pokemon Go, Pokemon cards are going up in value. You can even cash in bulk stacks of common cards, which add up if you’ve got a lot laying around. Like we said before, the cards generally aren’t worth as much as they used to, but if you’re lucky enough to grab certain rare cards like a Full Art Shaymin-EX or a golden Ultra Ball, then you can exchange them for a decent amount of cash. Unlike Pokemon Go, if you ever decide to stop playing, you can cash out, or hang onto them so one day they’ll be worth a bit more. While you do have to throw down some cash to play with actual cards, you can download Pokemon Trading Card Game Online (PTCGO) for Android, iOS, Microsoft Windows, or Mac OS to play at no cost.Įven better, the physical cards are worth money. ![]() You Can Play For Free (Or on the Cheap)Just like Pokemon Go, you can play the TCG completely free. If you’re enjoying Pokemon Go, then here’s why you should try out the Pokemon TCG. Numerous expansions later, the game is still going strong today, with new mechanics that make it easier and more accessible than ever. While things eventually calmed down and the card game faded out of sight of the general public, a dedicated community of Pokemon TCG players remained. ![]() It wasn’t long before schools banned them and parents refused to buy their kids anymore booster packs. The cards were worth quite a bit, and that led to kids (and adults) ripping people off with bad trades or outright stealing them like some kinda no-good Team Rocket goons. At first it was a fun way to enjoy the franchise in addition to the TV show and the Game Boy game, but things quickly got out of control once kids started arguing, fighting, and elbow-dropping each other over them. If you were around when Pokemon first exploded onto the scene in the late 90s, then you probably remember how Pokemon cards were everywhere.
